Bulletin Help for Kids

first_imgChildren and youth will soon be able to ask more questions, and get more answers, by picking up the telephone or their computer mouse. The Kids’ Help Phone (1-800-668-6868) is Canada’s only toll-free, 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous help line for children and youth. Phones, staffed by professional counselors, give immediate assistance to callers seeking help with a wide range of problems or questions. Government has entered into a three-year agreement to ensure that Nova Scotia children and youth can get more information and advice about resources and services in their communities. An additional professional counselor will be hired and receive training about specific help available in Nova Scotia. More information and resources will be added to the Kids’ Help Phone database. New promotional materials will be developed and made available to Nova Scotia kids. A new website — HelpZone.ca — has been launched. As its development continues, the site will be home to a wide range of information, categorized by age. Web-based services from Kids’ Help Phone will also be integrated. Children, youth and families can also submit questions of their own. A total of $300,000 will be invested in the Kids’ Help Phone. There has been $35,000 spent to date on the Kids HelpZone website and another $22,000 committed. This program is available provincewide. More information on the Kids’ Help Phone and Kids HelpZone is available on page 41 and 42 of Our Kids Are Worth It. -30- Note: More information on the Child and Youth Strategy: Our Kids are Worth It is available online at www.gov.ns.ca .last_img read more
