All we are doing is trying to spur development in rural communities, help create a spirit of advocacy and as a corporate citizen, give something back to Jamaicans for the years of support given to the building society,” he added.Mr. Flowers informed that applications for funding must come from community-based organizations and not from individuals and the projects must be income and employment generating, self-sustaining and have clear benefits to the community.A five-member committee is to be established to assess the project applications that come in and give the final approval for funding. The committee, though not yet formed, would be relying heavily on the resources of the Social Development Commission (SDC), which has an effective community-based infrastructure.Community Development Officer with the SDC, Nikima Leslie, told JIS News that the organization, over the years, has been instrumental in bringing together communities and state or private sector agencies, to find solutions for problems or to help chart a course for development.“We have the grass-root connections, we are known for the work we do so it is a good collaboration and we will happily work with JNBS in deciding which projects they would want to assist and help communities to prioritize”, she stated. The SDC has a network of community-based organizations, which operate at the local level, community-based committees, which function at the zonal level, and development area committees, which operate at the parish level. Seadrill Orders Two Hi-Spec Jack-up Rigs in China

first_imgSeadrill Limited has entered into new contracts for the construction of two high specification jack-up drilling rigs at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Co., Ltd. (DSIC Offshore) in China. The newbuild rigs are scheduled for delivery during the fourth quarter of 2015 and the first quarter of 2016, and the total project price per rig is approximately US$230 million (including project management, capitalized interest, drilling and handling tools, spares and operation preparations), with tail-heavy payment terms. The two new units will be based on the F&G JU2000E design, with water depth capacity of 400ft and drilling depth of 30,000ft. Seadrill now has in total eight jack-ups under construction at DSIC Offshore of which two are scheduled for delivery in 2013, five in 2015 and one in 2016.Fredrik Halvorsen, Chief Executive Officer of Seadrill Management Ltd, says in a comment, “These two additional orders highlight our commitment to growing our high specification jack-up fleet. The jack-up market has traditionally been a shorter term market; however we expect longer term contracts to be executed going forward. In addition to increased term we expect to see rising dayrates as attrition accelerates amongst an aging global fleet. These two new orders will increase Seadrill’s jack-up fleet to 29 units and strengthen our position as the largest operator of modern high specification drilling units.”[mappress]Press Release, June 20, 2013last_img read more

SHARE 2 Louisville officers shot amid Breonna Taylor protests Names of deputies involved in Immokalee fatal shooting released Man linked to Texas shooting faced military court martial center_img Recommended NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (AP) — The man authorities have identified as the gunman in a mass shooting at a Texas church was discharged from the Air Force for allegedly assaulting his spouse and child, according to an Air Force spokeswoman. The spokeswoman, Ann Stefanek, said Sunday that Devin Kelley was sentenced to 12 months’ confinement after a 2012 court-martial. He ultimately received a bad conduct discharge and reduction in rank. She said Kelley served in Logistics Readiness at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010 until his discharge in 2014.Authorities did not announce his name at a news conference on the shooting, saying only that the suspect was a white male in his 20s.But a U.S. official and a law enforcement official identified Kelley as the person who opened fire Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas, killing 26 people and wounding about 20 others. The U.S. official told The Associated Press that Kelley lived in a San Antonio suburb and that he doesn’t appear to be linked to organized terrorist groups. The official said investigators are looking at social media posts Kelley may have made in the days before Sunday’s attack, including one that appeared to show an AR-15 style semiautomatic weapon. The official requested anonymity because the person did not have authorization to speak publicly. An address listed in online records as belonging to Kelley is located in New Braunfels, Texas, just outside San Antonio and about 35 miles (56 kilometers) from Sutherland Springs.MORE: 26 killed in church attack in Texas’ deadliest mass shootingLocal records of an August traffic ticket issued in New Braunfels, Texas, for an expired registration and not having auto insurance give a birthdate that would make him 26 years old.At the address listed for Kelley in New Braunfels, two sheriff’s vans were parked outside and police officers stood at the gate of a cattle fence surrounding the property. Law enforcement officials gathered at the property declined to comment on why they were there. Several messages left for his relatives went unreturned.Neighbors said that they heard intense gunfire coming from the direction of the address listed for Kelley in recent days.“It’s really loud. At first I thought someone was blasting,” said Ryan Albers, 16, who lives across the road. “It had to be coming from somewhere pretty close. It was definitely not just a shotgun or someone hunting. It was someone using automatic weapon fire.”A person matching Kelley’s name and date of birth also registered in 2014 to vote in Colorado, with an address listed in Colorado Springs, home of the U.S. Air Force Academy. The Colorado Secretary of State’s office lists his registration now as inactive.According to Texas Department of Public Safety regional director Freeman Martin, the gunman arrived at a Valero gas station near the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs at around 11:20 a.m. Sunday. He was dressed in black, wearing tactical gear and a ballistic vest.He crossed the street to the church, left his vehicle and started firing a Ruger AR assault-type rifle at the church. Then he entered the church and fired. As he left the church, the shooter met an unidentified area resident with his own rifle who pursued him. The suspect was found dead in his vehicle near the border between Wilson and Guadalupe counties.Martin says it’s unclear if he died of a self-inflected wound or was shot by the resident.Carrie Matula embraces a woman after a fatal shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017. a day agoPetit: Arsenal not being honest about Ozil

first_imgTagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Petit: Arsenal not being honest about Ozilby Paul Vegasa day agoSend to a friendShare the loveArsenal hero Emmanuel Petit is baffled by the demise of Mesut Ozil. The midfielder has been frozen out by manager Unai Emery for the past month.Petit said, “Emery said last week that Mesut Ozil was ready to play. Yet he didn’t even make the bench. That left Arsenal without any quality to bring on. The players Emery picked to start in Sheffield – honestly, come on! Were there really no other options? What about Dani Ceballos? He’s one of the few Arsenal players who can create something with his passing. I don’t want to focus on Granit Xhaka all the time but, well, show me something else!”Regarding Ozil, I don’t think the club are being completely honest. Ozil seems to be ready to play, he has been training for weeks – if he’s not fit now, when is he going to be fit? There’s a problem somewhere.”Maybe it’s a mental issue or maybe Emery simply doesn’t like him or doesn’t trust him.”- Emmanuel Petit was speaking to Paddy Power last_img read more
